…Original spelt flour from the fields right outside the city gates, milk from cows that are still allowed to enjoy their lives on the lush Bavarian meadows and eggs from hens that spend their days outdoors in the fresh air make the Münchner Kindl-Taler so delicious and healthy at the same time. Its high hazelnut content also contributes to its unique taste experience. The Münchner Kindl-Taler is a healthy culinary delight. “For me, it always came back positively in different forms. So it made sense to develop a product for this city that is also about the idea of sharing” is the conviction of Thomas Pflaume, the “inventor” of this extraordinary cookie from Munich. Together with Anton Gürtner (Bio-Bäckerei Gürtner), he implemented this idea in 2016. Since then, the Kindl-Taler has been in constant demand, even beyond Munich’s borders.

TYPICALLY MUNICH: CULTURE OF ENJOYMENT AND CULTURAL ENJOYMENT
THE MUNICH KINDL
SYMBOL OF OUR CITY

It was in the 12th century that monks from the Schäftlarn Monastery settled in what is now Munich’s Old Town. The settlement, known as “Bei den Mönchen,” developed over time into the Bavarian metropolis of Munich. Since the 16th century, the “Münchner Kindl” (Munich Child) has symbolized the special attitude to life in the state capital on the Isar River. It lovingly embodies the joie de vivre, tradition, cultural enjoyment, and tolerance of its city and shares these values with its guests every day.
Munich is now one of Europe’s most important metropolises, attracting millions of visitors from all over the world every year. The city is known not only for its magnificent churches, museums, beer gardens, and FC Bayern Munich, but also for the annual Oktoberfest. The world’s largest folk festival, where the Münchner Kindl, mounted on horseback, leads the opening parade of the Wiesn hosts.

… Initially depicted as a monk in a black habit holding an oath book, the “Munich Child” began to change in 1847. The artist Kaspar Braun depicted the monk emerging from the city’s coat of arms – since then, many painters have attempted to depict the “Child.” Over time, the stern monk evolved into a cheeky girl who greets visitors to Munich on every corner of the city. The most famous “Munich Child” can be admired atop the town hall tower directly on Marienplatz. A statue 85 meters high, created by the Schwabing sculptor Anton Schmid based on his nine-year-old son Wiggerl, stands enthroned. The “Munich Child” can be found on tram cars, manhole covers, postcards, beer mugs, beer bottles, and posters. Instead of the oath book, in many depictions today it holds a beer mug – symbolizing the popular brew produced by the monks in this area. The city of Munich has a rich history and many interesting facts worth mentioning. First mentioned in a document in 1158, the city experienced significant growth in the 13th century as an important trading center and member of the Hanseatic League. In the 16th century, Munich became the center of the Counter-Reformation and experienced a cultural heyday under the Bavarian dukes. Munich also played an important political role in German history: In 1919, the Weimar Constitution was adopted here, and after World War II, the city served as the seat of the American occupying forces. In the 1970s, Munich became an important location for the emerging computer industry, home to companies such as Siemens and IBM. Today, in addition to BMW, other global players such as Apple and Microsoft have also settled here. They all value the city for its ability to combine joie de vivre, enjoyment, and culture in an interesting and exciting way.Our Munich Kindl 2023. Ambassador of our wonderful city
FOR HEALTHY ENJOYMENT ORIGINAL ORGANIC SPELT
The Münchner-Kindl-Taler is made with 100 percent organic ingredients. Original spelt flour, milk, eggs, and butter come from the region. Bavarian spelt flour has enjoyed increasing popularity in recent years, and for good reason. Spelt is considered one of the oldest cultivated plants in the region, with a long tradition. This ancient grain is particularly digestible and contains many valuable nutrients. Compared to wheat, spelt is richer in fiber, protein, minerals, and vitamins. Our grain comes from the Biolandhof-Kreppold in the Wittelsbacher Land region. Our gentle processing preserves the valuable ingredients of the spelt, ensuring a unique aroma and pleasant consistency.

… Spelt can also be an alternative for people with gluten intolerance. Although spelt, like wheat, contains gluten, it has a different protein composition, which makes it more digestible. Nevertheless, people with celiac disease or gluten intolerance should avoid spelt products to avoid health problems. Bavarian spelt flour is used by many bakeries and confectioners due to its excellent quality and good baking properties. However, a large proportion of the Münchner Kindl-Taler, predominantly organic hazelnuts, which thrive in sunny Europe under strict consumer protection guidelines. All our ingredients are subject to strict quality controls, which guarantee you both consistently: delicious taste and the highest quality.

We ensure top quality of our ingredients through regular field visits
FOR PEOPLE, ANIMALS AND NATURE
PURE ORGANIC QUALITY
Today, food production is subject to numerous standards and regulations. Aspects of animal welfare and sustainability are particularly important. Together with our partners, we adhere to these principles and are committed to sustainable production in accordance with strict consumer and animal welfare guidelines. For us, responsibility begins in the field, where the spelt grain for the Münchner Kindl-Taler is grown by the Biolandhof-Kreppold in the Wittelsbacher Land region. Biodiversity*, which encompasses the various life forms and ecosystems found in nature, plays an important role here. Despite intensive farming and a successful harvest, the fields are flourishing – many wild herbs still grow here, benefiting insects and farmland birds. A healthy and fertile humus layer is the result and the basis for healthy, nutrient-rich grain – good for people, nature, and the climate.

… We also focus on species-appropriate and natural conditions in our animal husbandry. The chickens and cows that provide eggs, milk, and butter live in the best conditions with plenty of space and freedom. This type of husbandry is fair not only to the animals but also to the consumers, because only healthy animals can provide high-quality food. We also rely on renewable energy sources. For example, energy is generated from specially planted poplar trees and a photovoltaic system in the bakery, making a major contribution to environmental protection. We want to send a clear message and show that sustainable food production is possible and that it is worth taking responsibility. Our customers can rely on the fact that the Münchner Kindl-Taler not only tastes good but is also produced under the best conditions. Because sustainability and animal welfare are closely linked to high-quality food. *In short: Biodiversity includes the different life forms (species of animals, plants, fungi, bacteria), the different habitats in which species live (ecosystems such as forests or bodies of water) and the genetic diversity within species (e.g. subspecies, varieties and races).

Organic quality starts with healthy soil
ALWAYS TOGETHER
PARTNERSHIP & FAIR
Appreciation and recognition for our farmers is important to us. So is the traditional baking trade. With Anton Gürtner (Gürtner Organic Bakery), we produce the Münchner Kindl-Taler (Munich Kindl-Taler). We source our organic spelt grain from Johannes Kreppold’s fields, and our milk, eggs, and butter from the Munich region. We know each of our suppliers and regularly exchange information on current topics. Our partners are reliable and, like us, maintain high standards of quality and sustainability. This allows us to guarantee consistent organic quality from the region and offer a sustainable gift from our wonderful city.

…We are already working hard to source our organic hazelnuts from Bavaria in the future. This is the final step toward being able to present the Münchner Kindl-Taler with the prestigious Organic Bavaria seal. All of our ingredients already meet this requirement for ecological improvements in the cultivation and processing of food. Due to the high hazelnut content of the Münchner Kindl-Taler (and the quantity of hazelnuts required for this), we will also implement this step in the foreseeable future. We are already in discussions with Bavarian hazelnut farmers and are working together on a fair, cooperative solution….

Excellent bakery craftsmanship and a cooperative partnership are important to us
FROM OUR OWN POPLAR FOREST
BACKEN MIT NACHALTIGER ENERGIE
Anton Gürtner’s ovens are primarily fueled by wood chips from the bakery’s own poplar forest. The bakery is also powered by a photovoltaic system and green electricity. This means that the Münchner Kindl Taler (Munich Kindl Taler) is also produced in a CO2-neutral way. We are committed to producing this baked good sustainably, according to strict consumer and animal welfare guidelines.
We also say no to genetic engineering, factory farming and chemical pesticides.

Sustainability is a highly urgent issue in times of climate change. There are many ways each individual can contribute to environmental protection. This, too, represents an important step for us in the production of the Münchner Kindl-Taler. *The combustion of wood chips releases CO2. However, with the sustainable management of our poplar forests, this CO2 is incorporated into newly formed wood, creating a CO2-neutral cycle. Furthermore, wood chip stoves emit significantly less particulate matter and pollutants than conventional heating methods.
